The relocation of Plymouth College Prep School has been a long held ambition to be able to utilise both the facilities and the expertise that currently exist on the Ford Park site for the benefit of the children within the Prep School environment. This page is to showcase our ambition, however it is subject to all the necessary planning and consents being agreed.
Plymouth College is one of the leading independent schools in the South West with a reputation that not only exists within the city of Plymouth but globally. From its inception back in 1877, it has gone through many developments and changes from the merger with Mannamead College in 1896 through to the acquisition of St Dunstan’s in 2004. Plymouth College is continually striving to grow and develop to provide the very best education it can serving families locally, nationally and throughout the rest of the world.
The relocation of the Prep School from the Millfields site (formally St Dunstan’s Abbey School) is the latest stage in the school’s long term strategy. The proposed consolidation of the senior and prep schools offers a number of important benefits, including but not limited to;
We believe that this move will continue to develop and enhance the learning experience that we can give our Prep School children. However, we are also keen to ensure that the children in the Prep School remain safe and secure, within bright and airy classrooms, with plenty of their own outdoor space and that parents can access the site for drop off and collection with ease.
We are delighted to be able to share with you the first artist’s impressions of the new Prep School, showing how we are looking to repurpose existing buildings but giving them a fresh, modern look. It will essentially become ‘a school within a school’ and the entire dedicated Prep School site will be enclosed within secure fencing; access will be controlled by a series of key pads and electronic locks. A large car parking area will be provided as well as a covered drop off and collection point where parents may wait. In terms of outdoors, not only will Prep children have direct access to a dedicated, multi-zoned outside area that has been designed exclusively for their needs but they will also have timetabled and accompanied access to the large playing fields and astroturf. Part of the Prep outdoor space will also incorporate a Forest School area as we now have two accredited Forest School practitioners amongst our Prep School staff.
We are all excited about the enhanced provision this move will give to the younger members of the Plymouth College community. We warmly welcome you to come and visit and talk through our plans in more detail as soon as we are able to welcome you back on site after the current lockdown. In the meantime, take a look at the latest progress with a video message from the Bursar.
