Jonathan Standen has been appointed Headmaster of Plymouth College. He will take on the headship in April 2015 when the current Headmaster, Dr Simon Wormleighton, retires after nine years.
With a degree in Ancient History and History, Mr Standen has spent eight busy and rewarding years at the helm of independent state school, The Crypt School in Gloucester. In that time he has steered the school to Academy Status and achieved 'outstanding' in every category in the school's most recent OFSTED Inspection. The Crypt has been recognised as a Teaching School and Mr Standen a National Leader of Education.
Prior to this Mr Standen was Deputy Headmaster at St Augustine's Catholic College, Bishop Wordsworth's School and Assistant Headteacher at Hardenhuish School, all in Wiltshire. In his early career he taught History and Politics at two schools in Maidenhead.
Formerly a qualified ski instructor, Mr Standen is a firm advocate of extra-curricular enrichment and has been a coach of rugby and cricket. A keen cyclist and golfer, Mr Standen comes to Plymouth with his partner Suzie who is a qualified accountant.
Chairman of Governors at Plymouth College, Chris Robinson, says: "We are delighted to welcome Jonathan Standen as the fifteenth Headmaster of Plymouth College. His appointment comes at a buoyant time for the school with its international standing, robust academic portfolio and elite athlete reputation. Mr Standen brings a wealth of experience to the position and we look forward to working with him in this next exciting phase of Plymouth College's journey."
