Plymouth College student Martha Miles represented British Fencing as an individual, competing in her first international fencing competition in Sofia, Bulgaria on 26 March.
The competition was part of the European Fencing Confederation U14 European circuit and attracted fencers from all over the world, including Japan, Hungary, UAE, Greece, Canada and Romania.
The event in Sofia was Martha’s first competition at this level. She won four of her six first round fights, ranking her 17th of the 47 entries, and putting her in a good position for the direct elimination rounds. She made it through the first cut, and won her next fight, before going out to the number one seed to improve her ranking and come to an excellent 15th place overall.
