Mali Ratumaiwai, Year 6, has had a very busy summer holiday.

On Saturday 10th August Mali competed in London in the Leon Paul Junior Series U11s International Epee. Mali fought his way to the semi-finals, not losing any matches and was ranked first going into the final. Mali fought hard and won a well-deserved gold medal for Great Britain.

Next, Mali competed in the Plymouth International Summer Camp held at Plymouth College. He really enjoyed it and came away with two gold medals, one for the individual U11s Epee and the other Gold in the U11s Team Epee. Mali's highlights were his individual lessons with the Italian National Epee Coach.

Mali then travelled to Cardiff to compete in LPJ’s Welsh Epee. Mali fought his way through the competition in the U11s and was ranked 2nd when he got a bye. In the semi-final Mali was competing against a bronze medallist in the EYCs. Mali reached 9 – 9 with priority to his opponent and 10 seconds to go, winning the match 10 – 9. After a phenomenal performance, Mali lost 5 – 4 in the final to one of his closest friends on the fencing circuit.

Mali has accumulated an excellent medal total of 3 golds and 1 silver over the holidays and kept his number 1 position in the LPJs U11s UK rankings.
