It has been lovely to see the sunshine return this week. Children have been able to run around in more space as we have been able to use the field.
In the Pre-school, our pupils have been learning all about different traditional tales, including The Princess and the Pea, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks and the Three Bears and Little Red Riding Hood. Based around these stories we have made triangle collage foxes, using a variety of shapes, made simple books by collage and adding independent mark making and created beanstalks using colanders, pipe cleaners and beads! I have heard a lot about the Pre-school ‘hoop of awe and wonder.’ This is a wonderful way to encourage the class to stand up and talk to an audience.
Reception made dinosaur fossils out of clay using plasticine as a mould. One of my favourite dinosaurs was definitely the dippy-docus! I have seen lots of number work and heard the children counting really well too.
Year 1’s frogspawn have turned into tadpoles this week as they continue to learn about the lifecycle of a frog. They have also been looking at the importance of recycling and a magpie called Maurice has been teaching them all about it. The classes have become 'recycling magpies' themselves! Year 2 have been busy practising for the concert. There was really wonderful singing coming from the conference room earlier.
In Years 3 and 4, Chess club with Mr Paul has taken off and is proving extremely popular. Children are learning new moves every week and are becoming quite the expert at the game. In Science, Year 3 have been learning about the skeleton and have had a model one as a special guest in their classroom all week.
The children in Year 5 have been looking at persuasive writing in English. I will be interested to read some of their arguments for and against some of these titles:
Should we be made to go to school in the summer holidays?
Sport is the best hobby a child could have.
Screen time should be limited to one hour per day.
Weekends should be three days long.
