In our Infant assembly this week, we have been looking ahead to World Book Day and sharing stories. A special mention to Charlie Mowatt in Year 2 for allowing me to share his story on the Rainforest Devil, based on the Gruffalo book. This is one of my favourite stories and I was ever so impressed with Charlie’s version. All pupils and parents should have received their virtual book token to claim their free World Book Day book or £1 off any book.

In the classrooms, I was most interested in the project that Year 1 undertook, based on their Three Little Pigs story theme this week.  They looked at materials to build houses and think about why they are chosen. In the afternoon the pupils were encouraged to make a small house out of whatever you would like!! Hula hoops, biscuits, cakes, bread, matchsticks, Lego … What an exciting day for Year 1.

In Year 2, I have been so impressed with the amount of work handed in. I saw some excellent examples of Maths from William and Leila, some fantastic handwriting from Luv and a very colourful design from Sophia. Well done to all of you.

A highlight of my week has to be the assemblies that I have been holding and I really hope these can continue when we return to school. Year 3 and 4 were delightful this morning and always are so keen to share their learning and are full of smiles.  I always enjoy hearing about what they’ve enjoyed learning about the most, because they are so full of enthusiasm and 20 minutes isn’t long enough to hear everything they have to say! I was particularly delighted this morning to hear that all classes have been enjoying their Maths, so it was a double thumbs up from me! I know that teaching about parallel and perpendicular lines and area and perimeter are not the easiest topics to do online, so well done to everyone. I have also set them a challenge to be the most compassionate class. We watched a short video this morning from the RSPCA about what it means to show compassion, this will form part of our PSHE work on living in the wider world. It was wonderful to hear so many of them already showing their caring side and I am sure that this will be a fantastic project to work on over the next few weeks.

In Year 5 and 6 Games this week, Caden Wray-Williams showed great initiative and planning skills by devising his own workout to present to the rest of the group. He livened up the session by bringing his own music along and created a workout session using a dice to pick the activity to do. Well done, Caden. Year 6 took part in our first German Karneval on Friday afternoon and I am very grateful to Mr Carr and Mrs Connor for taking time to put this on for them.
