This week marked one year since we started our home learning program. We took part in the National Day of Reflection and you can read more about this and see photos from the event here.
The children then continued to ponder and reflect on everything that has happened in the past year and you can view some of the resulting artwork and thoughts in the gallery below.
It’s been yet another fabulous week in Pre-school. We have had an overarching theme of ‘being healthy’. Looking at this in closer detail and connecting this to the children we have set up a Pre-School café! This has been manned by a different café owner each day and what a fabulous job they have done. They have painted spring daffodils and named parts of the flower with amazing outcomes. I was also lucky enough to help pupils make their dream catchers this week.
In Reception, I enjoyed joining in and making Easter chick prints with our handprints. We decided that my handprint was so huge that it would be ‘mummy duck’ to all their baby chicks. As well as some ‘secret’ Easter activities, they have looked at Easter celebrations and the meaning of ‘endangered animals’ and the fact that no one is too small to help make a change to the world. Our Reception pupils are becoming very knowledgeable, caring young citizens.
Year 2 have been reading and writing poetry about oceans. They started the week exploring seaweed, shells and other treasures from the shoreline before writing poems inspired by Micheal Rosen. Today they had ice lollies and then wrote poems inspired by their sticky goodness!
In science, this week, Year 3 have been learning about muscles and enjoying learning that the largest muscle is called the gluteus maximus! In English, they have been learning to use speech marks and we also enjoyed learning about the Anglo-Saxon Treasure ship find at Sutton Hoo.
In Year 4, this week, the children have begun studying Macbeth and have loved discussing and writing about the different characters, particularly the multi-faceted character of Macbeth himself. They have also enjoyed learning about some delicious traditional Brazilian dishes such as ‘feijoada’ and ‘brigadeiro’
There has been a lot of science to talk about this week for both Year 5 and 6. Year 5 thoroughly enjoyed making their own Flubber…multi coloured slime. They have been studying Forces and were able to use their slime to investigate this topic truly hands on!! Meanwhile, Year 6 have been completing their projects on S.A.V.E (Science against the Virus everywhere). This has involved group work and even through the lockdown they continued to develop their ideas. They have a shadow puppet theatre and board games. We are looking forward to seeing the videos of them presenting these projects.
Having the pupils back at school means that they have now been able to participate in some House sports fixtures as well. This week we have the following results.
