This week has been such a hive of activity at the Prep that it is impossible to go into detail about everything that has gone on! I am hoping that the incredible pictures will give you a wonderful feel and insight into just what we have managed to fit in this week. All children have been involved in recordings that you will be able to access through private YouTube links that will be sent via email. I would suggest watching them all as they are all brilliant and I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing the children practise and get into the Christmas spirit. Thank you to all of you for the donations to our food boxes for those families in need. It is overwhelming to see the generosity shown by our community.
The children have been working hard in class too. In the Early Years bubble, children have had a wonderful week embracing all Christmas activities which began with the fabulous Nativity play and has continued throughout the classroom. We don’t want to spoil the surprise but printed Christmas cards have been made, sewn Christmas decorations are being created and beautiful Christmas boxes are being filled with amazing handmade items. All this alongside all the usual academics of phonics and number activities such as playing post offices for wiring and number skills, triangular Christmas designs have been made for continued maths skills, and the science table was a huge hit!
Years 1 and 2 have been learning the Christmas story of Babushka and I was lucky enough to have Reid show me his story. An incredible effort went into this and a huge amount of writing. Well done, Reid – a commendation will be coming your way. Year 1 (with some help from Year 2) have also been learning about St Andrews Day from a real life Scottish teacher! It is good to see that even with all the excitement work is still going on and that Year 2 were keen to make patterns and tessellate shapes in their Maths lesson.
In the Junior bubbles, Year 6 have been making friends across the English Channel and have received letters from France. In English they have been studying a Christmas Carol and based their work around this classic novel and in Art they have made pinhole cameras. Year 3 and 4 have been rehearsing most of the week for their production of the Twelve Days of Christmas. This was recorded this morning and made all those rehearsals worth it. Year 4 have also been busy in Art with their "what can your mind's eye see' imagination pictures. Year 5 have spent time working hard and decorating their classroom, it is certainly the most festive area in the school. Their English lessons have been based around the Christmas truce held on Christmas day during World War One.
We also share a small video of our Year 3/4 Recorder Group who have only been playing together since half term. The piece is a Christmas dance.
It has been an incredibly busy week for staff and pupils and the feeling around the school has been fabulous. Thank you for your ongoing support and I am looking forward to another exciting fun filled week next week.
