At the start of the Summer Holidays, 20 students and 3 staff traded Plymouth College for Cape Town for a Hockey and Netball Tour. The Tour comprised of 7 games (4 Hockey and 3 Netball) and a whole host of cultural experiences, including a Game Drive, Langa Township Experience, a visit to the Shark Education Project, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, a visit to the Penguins at Simon’s Town, a surf lesson at Muizenberg Bay, the Cheetah Outreach Sanctuary and a tour of the Cape Peninsula.
All tourists acquitted themselves brilliantly and were superb ambassadors for the school both on and off the field. All fixtures were competitive, with the team recording 3 wins, 3 loses and a draw from their 7 games, against established schools such as Westerford, Reddam House and Pinelands. With a youthful group of tourists, the eldest being in Year 11 at the time of travel, it is hoped that the trip can be a catalyst for the continued development of girls’ sport as well as providing the blueprint for similar trips on a bi-annual basis.
