Plymouth College U15A beat Gillingham 35-12 in the final of the south west pool of the National Natwest Bowl competition. Aubrey Boxall scored first with an excellent finish, but the visitors provided a tough test and were leading 12-7 five minutes before half time. Two well taken tries in quick succession by Nathaniel Greenfield and a second by Aubrey Boxall meant that we went into the break 21-12 up. The teams were fairly evenly matched with strong running centres on both teams. The difference was the Plymouth College defence which was outstanding - the tackle count by Oliver & James McIver-Redwood and Zach Dunn was very impressive. George Willden, Josh Oliver, Lloyd Atwill and Harvey Bishop all provided strong, direct running attacks which eventually wore the opposition down. It was a moment of individual class from Rocky Prowse that sealed the game as he threw a great dummy from the back of the ruck and darted through a tiny gap to run in a try under the posts from 30m out. Aubrey Boxall then put the icing on the cake with making it a hat-trick of tries for the string running number 8. Will Mills impressively kicked 5 / 5 conversions which kept the score line edging away from the opposition. A fantastic team performance and win now takes us into the National ¼ final away at The Marling School on Tuesday 11th February.
