After both teams payed tribute to the recent loss of Kobe Bryant by seeing out a 24 second shot clot violation, the game commenced at a fairly frantic pace. Both teams initially struggled to score as nerves got the better of them, however after a free throw by both teams to settle their nerves they soon started to get into a rhythm. This made for a very competitive first quarter with only 3 points separating the teams.
Coach Paul Nicholson, for Plymouth College Raiders, gave some encouraging words to his players at the interval and they responded well by shutting down Mount Kelly's scoring opportunities whilst capitalising on their own offensive openings. This ended the half 26-13 in favour of Plymouth College.
The second half continued in a similar fashion and Plymouth College’s lead began to increase, which presented an opportunity for all players to contribute some valuable plays. Plymouth College increased their lead to 20 points heading in to the final quarter. Despite a final push by Mount Kelly, Plymouth College showed good discipline and organisation to see the game out to win 58 points to 33.
The most notable performance was by Kaden Kwok who led the team in scoring with 17 points, however the win was absolutely a team effort with eight different players getting on the score sheet, which emphasised the cohesive nature of the team’s performance.
