Congratulations to Year 5 pupil, Mali Ratumaiwai, for his fencing success over the Easter holidays!
Firstly, Mali travelled to Liverpool to compete in the Youth Series. He fought well and came home with a well-deserved gold medal.
He then travelled to Durham to compete in the Leon Paul Junior Series Under 11s. Mali won all of his poules and was awarded a bye straight to the finals. At the beginning of each match, all swords (epees) are checked and tested. Having reached the final, Mali’s epees were checked and, unfortunately, all four of them failed. After one epee was passed, Mali carried on with a sportsman-like attitude to narrowly lose 4-5. After a valiant effort, he came home with a silver medal.
The points Mali has won in these competitions have put him into a well-deserved 1st place in the Under 11s UK rankings. A brilliant achievement!
