Plymouth College Preparatory School has officially opened the doors of its new outdoor classroom.
The outside space at the Millfields-based school will mainly be used by the Early Years team so that as well as a traditional classroom, the children have an additional and very different environment for learning.
One of the many features of the outdoor classroom is a water pump and the children have already been given the challenge of watering the ground away from the pump. This has encouraged problem-solving and independent learning, while also being a lot of fun!
Other features include an amphitheatre providing a performance and seating area, sensory planting adding to the smells and textures of the environment and a castle to encourage imaginative play. There is also a circular path that the children can use for riding bikes and scooters.
Headmaster, Chris Gatherer said: "This is a wonderful space and will really help to stimulate the children's learning skills. I am particularly looking forward to seeing it used for performances, which is such a great way for children to build their confidence.
The Prep School's Chairman of Governors, David Woodgate, unveiled a plaque and planted a myrtle bush at the official opening.
