Plymouth College Lower Sixth pupils, Thomas Trebilcock and Joshua Gammon, were selected to compete at the 2019 Lifesaving European Championships in Riccione, Italy, as part of the Great Britain Lifesaving Youth Team.
The team, composed of six male and six female athletes, was selected from the Great Britain Lifesaving Squad representing clubs from Surf Life Saving GB, Surf Life Saving Wales and Royal Life Saving Society UK.
The European Lifesaving Championships are held every two years and attracts competitors from all over Europe. The GBR team of 24 athletes raced in 24 events across a week of intense competition racing the best in the Europe.
Both pupils rose to the challenge of the international competition and managed to win medals for GBR.
Josh Gammon took gold in the youth Men’s 50m Manikin carry. Josh was also the fastest qualifier, just 0.6 off the European record in the heats.
Thomas Trebilcock achieved 4 gold medals: two in the Surf Swim events and two in the Taplin Call disciplines. He also claimed 3 bronze in the Obstacle Relay and Tube Rescue events.
