Manchester International Swimming Meet
This weekend, Manchester once again played host to elite swimmers who are targeting the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games from across the country for the Manchester International Swim Meet. After the success of the event last month, Manchester Aquatics Centre, along with organisers British Swimming brought back the competition with the same COVID guidelines of competitors being invite-only and having completed a negative lateral flow test.
Plymouth College pupils Maisie Elliot (Upper Sixth), Honey Osrin (Upper Sixth) and Sophie Freeman (Lower Sixth), along with Plymouth College OPMs Laura Stephens and Ben Proud, all took part in the weekend competitions and achieved outstanding results representing both Plymouth College and Plymouth Leander.
During the first day of the swimming event, Laura Stephens won the 200m butterfly in 2’08”58, Sophie Freeman and Maisie Elliott also placed 6th and 8th in the 200 butterfly and Honey Osrin placed 7th in the 50m backstroke in 29”44. Furthermore, Ben Proud OPM brought home 1st place in the 50m front stroke in 22”15!
Over the course of the weekend and the swimming event, Laura Stephens achieved 3rd place in the 50m butterfly, Honey Osrin placed 5th in the 100m backstroke while Sophie Freeman came 3rd & 8th in the 100m backstroke & 200m front stroke. A huge well done to all of our Plymouth College pupils that attended!
Salvador Gordo
As well as success on home soil, Upper Sixth pupil, Salvador Gordo competed in the Federation Swimming Cup competition in Penza, Russia between 10th -12th March, in which he represented Plymouth College and Plymouth Leander superbly!
Over the course of the weekend, Salvador was able to not only smash his personal best time in 50m butterfly by securing a new record of 26"02, but also performed incredibly in the 100m butterfly and broke both National Angolan Juniors record with a time of 56"81! A huge congratulations on a phenomenal achievement!
