Plymouth College is delighted to announce the shortlisting of a number of its current pupils, former pupils, teachers and sports coaches in the forthcoming Devon and Cornwall Sports Awards. The glittering ceremony which takes place in January covers fourteen different categories, with more than 200 entries being received.
Director of Swimming, Robin Armayan, and Director of Modern Pentathlon, Rob Flack, have both been shortlisted in the Sports Coach of the Year category, whilst Head of Cricket and Head of Boarding, Matt Byrne, is also shortlisted in the Sports Teacher category. Current pupils Annabel Denton, pentathlete, and fencer Ben Andrews feature in the Young Sports Personality of the Year, with the U15 Boys’ Cricket and the U14 Girls’ Hockey teams also shortlisted in the School Team category following their success at county and regional level respectively.
Former pupil and world record holding swimmer Ben Proud has been shortlisted in two categories – Champagne Moment of the Year for winning Commonwealth Gold in the 50m Freestyle, as well as in the main category, Sports Personality of the Year, where another former pupil, England rugby player Henry Slade is also shortlisted.
Plymouth College is also thrilled to see many of its partners recognised, including Plymouth Leander in the Sports Team of the Year category, the top UK swimming club with whom Plymouth College has worked successfully in partnership for over a decade, producing Olympic and World champions.
