On a glorious spring day, we were delighted to host the Marylebone Cricket Club, more commonly known as the MCC.
This prestigious fixture represents the starting point for the 2021 school season. Each year, Plymouth College eagerly anticipate this annual fixture where our First XI get to experience competition at a premier level. Of course, we are fortunate enough to have some county representatives on our side, with several of our pupils having already represented Devon County this season. With Ben Privett and Elliot Hamilton establishing themselves in the senior Devon minor counties side there is plenty for the younger cricketers both in the team and lower down the school to aspire to.
A feature of the day is not just the battle between bat and ball but the opportunity the day provided for the players to socialise with their opponents on and off the field. It was wonderful to see non playing students from the school enjoying the beautiful Spring weather in their bubbles at various points during the day.
On the field the young side represented the College superbly with Will Stevenson (12) taking 4 wickets and Elliot Hamilton scoring 48 runs in an excellent team effort that left the College just short of the MCC’s total of 197.
Sadly, due to the ongoing Covid 19 restrictions we were unable to share this wonderful event with parents in person, however we did live stream it and we hope to share the edited highlights with you in due course. In the meantime, do take a look at some of the photographs captured at this event in the album below.
