Plymouth College’s high performance swimmers will be competing in top competitions around the world this summer.
Olympic, World and European champion, Ruta Meilutyte (Lithuania), will swim to retain her 100m breaststroke title in the World Championships in Kazan in July. Joining her will be Jamila Lunkuse for Uganda. Director of Swimming, Jon Rudd, has been selected as a coach to the Lithuanian team.
In June, Joseph Hulme, Laura Stephens and Thomas Fannon (pictured) will all swim for Great Britain in the inaugural European Games in Baku. The three will also represent Great Britain in the World Junior Championships in Singapore in August, along with Darren Lim (Singapore) and Molina Smalley (Namibia). Deputy Director of Swimming, Robin Armayan, has been selected as a coach to the Great Britain team.
Meanwhile, at the British Championships in London, Thomas Fannon took two British and two English records in the 50m freestyle. Joseph Hulme claimed an English record in the 200m IM and Emma England was a gold medallist in the junior 50m freestyle final. Thomas Fannon was a silver medallist in the senior 50m freestyle final, Laura Stephens a double gold medallist in the 100m and 200m butterfly junior final, Joseph Hulme won silver medals in the 100m backstroke and 200m IM junior finals and Charlotte Atkinson claimed a bronze in the senior 50m butterfly.
Finalists included Shauna Lee, Eliza Duffy, Ethan Harrington and Oliver Goodhew.

We had some outstanding results at the British Championships and I’m sure we’ll see a lot more in the coming months.
“Our swimmers’ achievements are all the more impressive when you consider they have to balance intensive training with school. We work very hard as a team to support them and make sure they achieve their goals both in the pool and in the classroom.”
