Plymouth College fencer, Tia Simms Lymn, 16, has won double bronze at the Commonwealth U17 and U20 Fencing Championships in Capetown.
Competing for Jamaica, she beat Rebecca Wakefield of England 16-9 in the last 16 of the U17 event. In the quarter-finals she beat Bonita Rui from Austrailia, 15-4. In the semi-final she lost to Laura Sheffield of England, 8-14.
In the U20 event Tia beat Ena Arora from India, 15-8, in the last 16. In the quarter-finals she beat Emily Principe from Australia, 15-12. In an extremely close semi-final she lost 14-15 to Elizabeth Powell from England.
Director of Modern Pentathlon and Fencing, Andy Hill, said: “This has rounded of a great year for Tia in which she has been a Youth Olympic finalist, Commonwealth senior silver medallist, Pan American U17 Champion and British U16 Champion.”
