The Plymouth College Swimming Team has made the national English Schools Swimming Association finals after an impressive performance at the South West Championships. Plymouth College came away with 6 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze medals at the regional event – close behind was Millfield who took 6 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze.
The Senior (Years 11, 12 & 13) 200m Freestyle and Medley relays saw a Plymouth College dominance, winning all four relays in both the male and the female events. The Senior Female Medley relay was a particular strength for Plymouth, winning the event courtesy of Ella Bowkley, Victoria Russell, Laura Stephens and Emma England, with their ‘B’ team grabbing an excellent bronze. A further gold in the 200m Freestyle relay courtesy of England, Jessica Jackson, Felicity Passon and Anita M’Cartney was comfortably secured, with the Plymouth ‘C’ team also taking a fine bronze in this event.
It was a similar story in the Senior Male Medley relay, with Kregor Zirk, Federico Poggio, Darren Lim and Tom Fannon simply unstoppable. Zirk, Fannon and Lim were to link up with Myles Pillage to seal another clear victory in the Freestyle equivalent.
In the Intermediate age group (Years 9 & 10), Plymouth College’s Male Medley relay of Charlie Boden, Morgan Newman, Sam Dailley and Eanna O’Hara were to clinch gold, with the Female version of the Medley event in this age category also secured courtesy of Molly Barton, Tegan Drew, Jazz Harbour and Lucy Armitage.
Silver medals for Plymouth came in the Intermediate Female Freestyle relay and the Junior (Years 7 & 8) Female Medley and Freestyle events. The Junior Male Freestyle and Medley relays were also to take silver, as were the Intermediate Male Freestyle relay team.
The national finals take place on Saturday 21st November at the London Aquatic Centre.
