Plymouth College athlete, Poppy Tank, has won the senior girls' Devon Schools Cross Country Championships at Stover, beating her closest rival by 1 minute 15 seconds. Through to the South West round, Poppy, is hoping to make it all the way to the National Championships in March and beat her impressive 4th place achieved last year.
Poppy has been steadily improving since a couple of seasons plagued with injury. Her emerging talent has been spotted by the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where she has been offered a 100% scholarship with coaching to progress her to international level.
Held in perfect conditions on a frosty but crisp morning, a total of 14 Plymouth College athletes competed at the Devon event. Also progressing to the South West Championships in Cheltenham on 6th February is Seren Allin, who came 6th in the senior girls’ race. Elena Sidman was disappointed with 12th, but is on the reserve list as are Edward and Oliver Smart who were both 14th in their respective races.
