Plymouth College student, Bailey Cameron, 13, has won a place at the prestigious performing arts school, Italia Conti, in London.
The rising star secured his place after going through a series of intense auditions for singing, dancing and acting. He also had to take an academic test.
Bailey is no stranger to the stage having performed at the Theatre Royal as Percy in Matthew Bourne’s Lord of the Flies and as Michael Hobbs in Elf the Musical – he went on tour with the latter to Dublin. He has also had parts in Robin Hood and Dick Whittington, as well as performing in productions at Devonport Playhouse. Bailey was also in the recent school show, Beauty and the Beast, and did a solo in the Summer Concert.
Last year Bailey went to Belfast with Youth Music Theatre and will work with them again this summer at Plymouth’s Barbican Theatre. He currently attends DJR School for Performing Arts, Nicky Costin School of Ballet and Airborne Boys Dance at TR2. Once at Italia Conti, Bailey will do academic lessons in the mornings and performing arts in the afternoons.
“This is such an exciting opportunity,” said Bailey. “London and Italia Conti are right at the centre of things for auditions so I can’t wait to get started. I really want to do shows in the West End – Phantom of the Opera is my favourite – and I would love to go to America and perform on Broadway. Eventually my dream is to run my own dance studio.”
