Plymouth College announces the appointment of Robin Armayan as Director of Swimming. Robin succeeds Olympic coach Jon Rudd, to head up the world class swimming programme at Plymouth College, dubbed the Olympic School.
The College, which educates students from 3-18 in Plymouth, sees students from 36 nationalities training to become the next generation of Olympians. The London 2012 Olympics saw great success for the school with four Olympians, including one Gold and one Bronze medal, bested at Rio 2016 with 10 current and former students competing.
Robin joined the Plymouth College, Plymouth Leander partnership in 2014 from Poole Swimming Club, where he was Head Coach. In 2015 Robin Armayan was selected as a GB coach for the Fina Junior Swimming Championships. The role of Director of Swimming for the leading swimming programme in the country, attracted applications from coaches around the world. Robin having been number two to Jon Rudd, uniquely understands the demands of a high-performance training programme, while ensuring students receive a first-class education.
Jon Rudd says, “ I am not sure who will be more delighted myself for Robin’s success, or the students who get to keep a superlative coach. The programme is in very safe hands with Robin and I look forward to watching his and the students continued success.”
Plymouth College Headmaster, Jonathan Standen added “Robin was, without question, the best candidate, the panel were particularly impressed with Robin's vision for the future. Robin is an ambitious man determined to build on Jon's impressive work, taking our programme to new heights.”
