Plymouth College is delighted to announce the appointment of Roberto Pavoni as Deputy Director of Swimming. Roberto represented Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympics in the 400m individual medley. In 2014 he went on to win a hat-trick of gold medals at the British Championships as well as winning bronze and silver in the 200 and 400m Medley.
On retiring from competitive swimming, he joined Loughborough Town Swimming Club as Head Coach. Roberto says “I am delighted to be joining the Plymouth College swimming programme, the students, staff and facilities at the college are World-Class. I look forward to working with the school’s athletes to produce the next crop of Olympians.”
Plymouth College achieved great success at the London 2012 Olympics, which saw the school represented by four athletes, including a bronze medal winning Tom Daley, and a gold medal winning Ruta Meilutyte. Building on the success from 2012, nine students competed at the Rio 2016 Olympics, the most of any school in the UK. This performance has cemented Plymouth College’s position as the UK’s leading swimming programme.
Robin Armayan Director of Swimming at Plymouth College says,” We are looking forward to welcoming Roberto to the programme, his international experience combined with his enthusiasm for the sport will be a real asset.”
