The Army Section of Plymouth College Combined Cadet Force recently deployed on Exercise Tregantle Thunder, a rifle live firing weekend camp at Tregantle Fort, Cornwall. Sixteen cadets, including a contingent from Stoke Damerel Community College, all fired the cadet rifle at both 100m and 200m under various shooting conditions, from deliberate to rapid fire shoots. The weather was, as always, changeable but those cadets who got soaked soon dried out in the sun! A BBQ was held on the Friday night before sleeping under the stars. Following further practices and coaching on Saturday, a shoot was held and scores recorded that resulted in various levels of achievement, with most cadets qualifying for their shooting badge. Overall it was a very successful weekend where the cadets showed high level of skill with the rifle and gained a lot of confidence prior to deploying on Annual Camp in 2 weeks’ time.
