The Prep U11 girls reached the County finals after an unbeaten passage through the regional rounds. In a group with Chagford, Woolacombe and Woodbury primary schools, they won the first game comfortably by 20 clear runs, which was very impressive given that half of this team had been part of Chagford’s winning mixed pairs team from a previous county tournament. They had similar success in the other two group games, batting dominantly and winning their group comfortably.
In the semi-finals, they met Stockland Primary Academy, a team with a rather rich history in this competition, having won it on numerous occasions – victorious over us in the final last year. This was a much closer affair and although our girls bowled well, keeping the opposition score down to a fairly modest 49, their batting form deserted them for the first time that afternoon. We lost a nail-biting game by 2 runs! Stockland went on to win the tournament again. Mr Underwood, PE teacher, said: “We can be proud that, although we came up short, it was considered by many that we were very unlucky not to have at least made the final.”
