The first weekend of the Devon County Championships marked the start of 2019 and the second cycle of swimming for Plymouth Leander. There was amazing support throughout the meet - it was great to see the enthusiasm from young swimmers competing in their first Devon County Championships right up to the older National swimmers. Special congratulations go to Year 8 pupil, Ruby Griffiths, who is currently British no. 7 in 800m Freestyle and British no. 14 in 200m IM and Year 7 pupil, Panos Angelakis, who is ranked GB no. 2 in 12yrs 800m Freestyle.
Well done to all for an amazing first weekend of racing, Plymouth College swimmers achieved a total of 10 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze medals!
Robin Armayan, Director of Swimming, said: “The junior swimmers are becoming confident in their racing strategy, putting into practice the skills they’ve learnt in training. I am proud to see them getting times that qualify them for regionals as well, taking their swimming to yet another level. There were many swims that produced PBs and the coaches were extremely proud of them. From the dives to the underwater work and finishes, I know that the athletes have worked really hard. Keep up the hard work and hopefully we will see these results replicated over the next few weekends as well.”
