The Plymouth College girls’ cricket team have won the U15 Devon Indoor Girls’ Cricket Tournament after convincingly winning all their matches.
The tournament, sponsored by Lady Taverners, was held at Exeter University and included competitions at both U15 and U13 level. Teams involved were Stoodley Knowle, South Dartmoor and Torquay Girls’ Grammar School.
The girls played four matches, with innings of eight overs. They received certificates and a trophy, as well an indoor cricket bag donated by Matthew Theedom, Cricket Development Manager for Devon.
Just days later the girls represented Devon at the South of England final, held at Northcroft Leisure Centre in Newbury. Involving teams from all over the southern England, they won two of their three matches finishing in a very respectable 3rd position.
“The girls played really well in both competitions”, said coach, Tara Dodd. “Their fielding was tight, batting strong and excellent bowling helped to keep the opposition’s runs down. I’m delighted that they have won the Devon crown and they only just missed out on the regional title. Hopefully next year they can make it all the way to the national final at Lords”.
