The Plymouth College Preparatory School swimming team has triumphed at the first 'Plymouth Inter-Primary Schools Swimming Championships'. Hosted by Plymouth Leander at the Plymouth College pool, the Prep swimmers beat teams from seven schools to become the large schools and overall champions of the event.
Before the main gala started, the children got to watch two Great Britain senior international swimmers in action - Emma Wilkins and Achieng Ajulu-Bushell, who both took part in the World Championships in Rome last year, are the products of the Plymouth College/Plymouth Leander scholarship programme.
The competition that followed saw a number of fiercely-fought races, with Plymouth College Preparatory School clinching the Large Schools Competition trophy and the Val Conroy Memorial shield for the Overall Champions. St Christopher's Primary School were the winners of the Small Schools trophy.
Plymouth Leander Head Coach and Plymouth College Director of Swimming, Jon Rudd, said, "This was a fantastic event full of enthusiasm and healthy competition. It also allowed us to talent ID young swimmers who may have an exciting future in this sport. At this age it is so important that such youngsters get involved in a forward-thinking and intuitive programme so that their potential can be sought. We look forward to welcoming even more schools to this competition next year."
