Plymouth College welcomed the President of the Lithuanian Swimming Federation earlier this week. Tomas Kucinkas, together with Vice-President Mindaugas Spokas, came to Plymouth to meet the three Lithuanian swimmers currently on the school's elite athlete programme, including Olympic gold medallist, Ruta Meilutyte. Swimmers Eva Gliozeryte and Mantas Budrys joined Plymouth College in September.
Tomas and Mindaugas had an early start watching the swimmers train at the Life Centre before school. This was followed by a meeting with Plymouth College Deputy Head, Sarah Dunn, and Director of Swimming, Jon Rudd, to talk about the Plymouth College/Plymouth Leander partnership and the support it gives to young athletes both in their swimming training and academic studies. They finished their visit with a tour of facilities including the school's specialist boarding houses for swimmers.
Sarah Dunn, who is also the school's Director of Sport said: "It was great to meet Tomas and Mindaugas and share with them the work that we do here to ensure our elite athletes are well supported in every aspect of their lives. As well as swimming, they were also very keen to hear about our Basketball Academy. Basketball is a major sport in Lithuania and as a result of their visit we hope to develop links with them in this respect too."
