Plymouth College swimming sensation and Olympic gold medallist, Ruta Meilutyte, returned triumphant from the World Short Course Championships in Istanbul with two golds and a silver medal.
The 15-year-old won gold in the 50m breaststroke and followed that with silver in the 100m individual medley 24 hours later. The next day she claimed the 100m breaststroke title. Ruta is the first swimmer in the history of the championships to win two golds before her 16th birthday.
Ruta's time of 1:03.52 in the 100m breaststroke beat the championship record of 1:03.98 set by America's Rebecca Soni in Dubai in 2010 and was the second fastest time ever. She went out fast and was under world-record pace over the first half of the final and held on for her second gold medal of the meet.
After a well-earned Christmas break Ruta will next be focussing on training for the World Championships in Barcelona in the summer.
