Plymouth College's U17 development side have donated £125 to Meningitis Trust UK. The money was raised at a Quiz and Chilli Night, involving staff from Lloyds TSB. The bank is matching the money raised as part of its charity scheme.
The cricket team are touring Sri Lanka in July and as well as raising money for the trip they also want to help a good cause. Other activities so far have included an auction and a cake sale. Another cake sale has been planned for this term as well as a raffle and bag packing at Sainsbury's Marshmills on Friday 8 March.
During the tour of Sri Lanka the team will play five matches against local schools. One match will be held at the Pallekelle International Stadium used in the recent T20 World Cup. In between matches they will have the chance to see historic sites in Galle, Kandy and Colombo as well as a visit to an elephant orphanage.
"We are delighted to support Meningitis UK as part of our tour fund-raising", said Plymouth College Head of Cricket, Jonathan Mears. "This is going to be a trip of a life-time for the boys and knowing that they are also helping a charity makes it all the more worthwhile. I would like to thank our tour sponsors Lang and Co, Plymouth Knee and Foot Clinic, Higgins Engineering Ltd, South West Welding Supplies, Direct Property Services, Lomac Energy Ltd, Café Indiya Ltd and Pilgrim Pasties Ltd.
