Just before the end of term, Year 8 students relived aspects of the English Civil War with historians from Great Torrington 1646.
Master Christopher, the Barber Surgeon, set to work resolving headaches, constipation and toothache using a mixture of heavy metal implements, white wine and honey. The bloodied sheets and tools were given as evidence of successful operations. Mistress Agnes then fitted students out in their armour and everyday clothing explaining that the women's work was never done - cleaning, cooking, gardening and looking after the children proved a very physical existence.
Sir Basil then warned the students off witchcraft with demonstrations of the "heresy fork" and "jaw crusher" designed to keep reprobates on the straight and narrow. The day finished with the firing of a Civil War musket on the field ensuring the event finished with a bang.
