Plymouth College Preparatory School pupil, Ted Slade, 9, has returned from a term at the British Ski Academy (BSA) in Chamonix with a clutch of medals, including a British title.
The talented skier was invited to join the academy after he was spotted by monitors during a family ski holiday. Ted was one of about 40 young people to be selected, along with his sisters Hattie and Bella.
As well as winning gold in the U10 Giant Slalom at the British Alpine Championships, Ted won 2 gold medals, 6 silver medals and a 3rd-place trophy competing in the English Alpine Championships, Welsh Alpine Championships, Scottish Alpine Championships, British Interschool Ski Challenge and the Aigion College Cup.
"I've been skiing since I was 2 years old and have always loved racing," said Ted. "Being at the academy was a lot of fun and my skiing has really improved. We did our ski training in the mornings and school lessons in the afternoons. I also got to have a go at ski jumping, which was great. I hope to continue racing and perhaps one day ski for Britain."
The BSA is the winter base for junior British ski racers aged 7-17. Its purpose is to be a stepping stone for young athletes aiming to achieve a world-class level of performance in Alpine ski racing. The UK's junior and senior national ski teams are mainly comprised of current and former BSA trainees.
