Former Head of Modern Languages at Plymouth University, Marie-Marthe Gervais-Le Garff, has held a session with Year 10 and 11 Spanish and French pupils about the benefits of languages. The talk was held as part of the national scheme, Routes into Languages.
Marie-Marthe, who has also been a university admissions tutor, enlightened pupils of the ever-growing importance of Spanish and French in the workplace and at university. She informed them of the increasing need to incorporate a foreign language into a degree even if the core course of study is not a language. She told them that having Spanish or French skills will ensure they stand out in applications to university and, more importantly, in the world of work in spheres such as business, medicine and law among others.
