Year 10 Spanish students joined in with the Catalan celebration of ‘El día de San Jorge’. The Spanish regions of Cataluña and Aragón both celebrate “El día de San Jorge” (St George´s Day) along with England and five other countries. The students learnt about the history of the knight Jorge who saved the Princess of Montblanc from being sacrificed and devoured by the monstrous dragon. They made dragons and castles to depict the story.
Meanwhile, Spanish assistant, Sebastián from Arica in Chile, taught Year 10 the Chilean Cueca. In Chile, the Cueca holds the status of national dance, where it was officially selected on September 18, 1979. Cueca tournaments are popular in Chile, particularly for the National Day. It was a welcome treat following all the preparation for GCSE assessments.
