Academic Sixth Form

The UCAS deadline of the 29th January has now passed, however we have already seen some excellent offers of university places coming in to our Upper Sixth students.

University isn't for everyone, however the vast majority of Plymouth College students choose to extend their studies in this direction.  In the past, Plymouth College pupils have had great success going to a variety of highly regarded institutions and 2021 is proving to be the same.

Bearing in mind that the UCAS deadline has only just passed, with many students still awaiting decisions on their applications, our Upper Sixth have, so far,  received no less than 173 offers of places at universities around the UK, 60 of which are for 17 different Russell Group universities including the University of Cambridge, University College, London (UCL), Durham and  Exeter.

Plymouth College Sixth Form Students have also received offers from other prestigious universities including St Andrew's, Bath, Bristol (UWE), Lougborough and Oxford Brookes.

The direction our Sixth Form are taking also varies widely - a testament to the breadth of opportunities here at the school.  Over 155 different courses have been applied for through UCAS from Ancient History through to Veterinary Bioscience.  Medicine, Accounting and Finance and Business subjects have been popular this year and, as you might expect from a sports specialist such as PMC, over 30 different sports-related courses.

It has also been interesting to see the direction of the students choosing to study our Sports Baccalaureate (BTEC) qualification.  Whilst many have chosen to extend this further and gone into a sports-related field, some of our students have changed direction and have had offers to study Biomedical Sciences, Business Management and Criminology.

Plymouth College students have a global outlook and some choose to take their further studies abroad;  at the time of writing we are still waiting to hear from some institutions but one of our pupils has already had several offers from American universities and is looking forward to continuing their educational journey 'Stateside'!

All of our students have worked extremely hard to have achieved this to date, however, mention must be made to the fantastic support they receive from our superb staff.  From careers advice to support and guidance in putting together applications, teaching staff have gone above and beyond to ensure that every one of our students can show the best that they can be.  We look forward to more news in due course and will keep you updated.
