Plymouth College athlete, Poppy Tank, 17, has taken the individual silver and the team gold for Devon in the South West Schools’ Inter Counties Cross Country Championships.
Held at Grittleton House School in Wiltshire, Poppy just missed out on the top spot in the 4 km Senior Girls’ competition – fellow Devon runner, Victoria Weir, came first with another Devon runner, Emily Ackford, taking third place.
As well as Devon and Wiltshire, teams from Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Avon and Gloucestershire also competed at minor, junior, intermediate and senior levels. Distances ranged from 2.5 km to 6.6 km.
Poppy, who is a member of Plymouth Athletics Club, has been on top form this season winning both the Devon Schools and the Devon County Championships. She was the top Devon athlete in the South West Championships, taking the bronze medal position.
On the back of her performance in the South West event Poppy has been selected for the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Blackburn in March.
