The latest European Cadet Circuit competition was held in Luxembourg with team and individual events for U17 girls and boys. Great Britain was represented by Ben Andrews and Taylor Foxwell-Moss. The individual event for Cadet girls had 132 contestants. Taylor fenced really well in the group stage with 4 victories and 2 defeats. Unfortunately her first direct elimination match with a fellow British fencer didn’t go well for Taylor and her journey through the tournament finished with her ranked 65. The team event was much better as the team finished 4th overall from 16 teams. Ben had roughly the same number of fencers listed for the boys' tournament (136). In the first round Ben recorded four victories and lost just one match. In the second round Ben started ranked 31, He easily beat two German fencers on his way to his final match with a fencer representing France. The whole fight was tight from the beginning and the Frenchman was lucky to score the last hit to win 15:14. Overall, Ben reached 29th position in this, his last international event before the European Cadet Championship in Plovdiv (Bulgaria). Ben has one more month of preparation before his European debut between February and March this year.
Katy Miles took part in the Devon County Championship, coming away with a bronze medal. Now the whole fencing squad is preparing for the British Youth Championship qualifier this Sunday at Millfield School.
