Sport Netball

The year 8 netball team captained by Danielle Trathen, travelled to Ivybridge for a 3 way netball match against DHSG and Ivybridge. We started against DHSG and we took a little while to settle in and set up our shots. There was some great court play using the width and depth which resulted in some great visual netball. The games were umpired by Ivybridge year 11 girls who did a great job allowing the coaches to actually coach during the game.

Danielle made some fantastic interceptions to turn the ball over and then feed into the shooting circle, where Annabelle Bryce and Indie Burrows had to feed around a huge tall GD. Abagael Black and Sophie Watson were a force to be reckoned with in the defending circle and little got past them, but when it did DHSG converted them quickly. Rebecca Eadie played some sound, sensible netball and brought the ball nicely up the court looking for opportunities to feed into the attack. At half time there were 2 substitutions made; this allowed the players who came off to see how the game was fairing from the sideline. Scores were 6 - 4 to Plymouth College.

The second game we played was against Ivybridge; we went out fighting from the start and were 10 - 4 in the first half with most of our shots whipping into the net with ease. We were thoroughly warmed up by this time and match focused, so we looked a formidable force as a whole. There were still some silly mistakes creeping into the play at times, but on the whole it was very good. At half time we switched around players and so did Ivybridge which made a huge impact to our game. We didn't convert our goal opportunities and play thundered back down the court for them to score. From being so far up in the first half, our second half didn't give us the results we should have come away with as we sat back on our laurels thinking the game was in the bag for us. We need to learn how to quickly change a game when subs are made. The final score was 13- 12.

Squad: Annabelle Bryce, Indie Burrows, Maggie Crossley, Danielle Trathen, Rebecca Eadie, Abagael Black, Sophie Watson, Grace Hockin, Scarlett Stevens-Fleming.
