This year’s Preparatory School swimming gala for Years 4 to 6 saw no less than six school records broken. Held at the 25-metre pool at the Senior School, Downton House was the over-all winner on 146 points. Pusey House scored 127, Wantage House 120 and Sellon House scored 97 points.
With races for each year group, the event involved front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke at 25 and 50 metres, as well as individual and team relays.
Breaking three school records (Individual medley, 25m fly and 50m front crawl) and being involved in five winning races including two relays, Myles Pillage won the Victor Ludorum. For the girls, Poppy Tank broke one school record (50m front crawl) and won five races including two relays before being awarded the Victrix Ludorum. Myles and Poppy were also part of the 4x50m relay team that broke a fifth school record. Myles’ brother, Alex Pillage, broke the sixth school record for the 50m back crawl.
Other outstanding performances came from Harriet Mitchell, Charlotte Toptani, Ollie Lord, Annie Crocker and Jacob Keogh.
Headmaster, Chris Gatherer, said: “All the children took part with great enthusiasm and everyone tried really hard. There were some tightly-fought races and some very impressive wins. Well done to them all.”
