Plymouth College 18 – Truro School 12
Plymouth College progressed to the 4th Round of the Daily Mail Cup with a hard-fought win over old rivals Truro School. Truro are always hard to beat, especially at their own ground, so to go down there and get the result made the afternoon all the more satisfying.
Plymouth’s strength lay in a dominant scrum and strong first line defence, although the excellent Truro back row frequently made big yardage. When Plymouth upped the tempo of the game and forced the Truro side to defend under stress, they looked dangerous, resulting in points from the boot of James Burke.
However, the game seesawed as nerves played their part on both sides. Plymouth fell behind briefly 12 – 11, but responded quickly with a converted try to lead. Stalwart defence held Truro out for Plymouth to achieve an important victory.
The First XV remain unbeaten.
