Olympic champion and Plymouth College swimmer, Ruta Meilutyte, 16, has broken the European record for 100m breaststroke for a second time - she previously set the record at last summer's Olympic Games on her way to a gold medal.
Competing in the Mare Nostrum series in Monte Carlo, Ruta clocked 1.05.20 on her way to victory. Just 0.75 off the world record, Plymouth College Director of Swimming, Jon Rudd, was impressed by her performance.
"We haven't started the taper into the World Championships yet so I really wasn't expecting this," said Jon. "Ruta won the race by more than 2.5 seconds and it didn't even look like it was full effort!"
The following day Ruta went on to claim the 50m breaststroke title. She won a head-to-head race with Russia's Valentina Artemyeva in 30.19.
The Lithuanian sensation will now concentrate on her preparations for the World Championships in Barcelona in July.
