Plymouth College Deputy Head, Sarah Dunn, and Head of Biology, Simon Jordan, have cycled a gruelling 1017 miles from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for Bliss and Cancer Research.
Sarah and Simon were joined on the ride by friends Kealey Sherwood and Simon Bowden. Amy Sherwood drove the support vehicle. Simon and Amy's son, Benjamin, was the inspiration for the ride. When he was born prematurely they received a lot of care, help and support from Bliss, the charity for babies born too soon, too small and too sick. Cancer Research is also close to the hearts of the team.
Taking 12 days and cycling up to 105 miles a day using minor roads and trails, the epic ride has raised nearly £8000. The team had four punctures, battled ten days of headwinds, two days of rain and burnt an incredible 41,500 calories.
"It was an amazing experience," said Sarah. "We have travelled through some of the most stunning scenery Great Britain has to offer made all the better by the outstanding kindness and generosity of some of the people we met on our way.
"A massive thank you to everyone who supported us. People sponsored us, trained us, fed us, gave us freebies, mended our bikes and sent us funny and inspirational messages to keep us going.
"I am delighted to report that we have far exceeded our fund-raising targets so have been able to fully support these two very worthy causes."
