Plymouth College maths teacher, Andy Norris, has won one of the toughest endurance events in the country, the Horseman XTri on Dartmoor.
The ironman distance triathlon saw top athletes compete in a 2.4 mile swim in Roadford Lake, 108 mile cycle across Dartmoor to Bovey Tracey via Princetown and back to Oakhampton, finishing with an incredibly tough 26 mile run over the Oakhampton Ranges culminating with Yes Tor and High Willhayes, the highest points on Dartmoor.
Andy was 17th out of the swim but climbed to 4th place by the end of the cycle. The experienced runner and winner of the 2012 Worcester Marathon soon took the lead in the grueling run, extending his lead by six minutes to win the whole event in 12 hours four minutes.
This is Andy's third triathlon win this year having triumphed in the Plymouth Tri and the Worcester Middle Distance Tri.
"I have been competing in triathlons for 15 years but this is the first year I have made the podium so I am delighted at how well my training has paid off.
"Next year I hope to come top of my age group at Ironman UK and qualify for the World Championships in Hawaii."
