Plymouth College Preparatory School's Year 2 classes had a wonderful time visiting Riverford Organic Farm.
The children started with a talk about the different vegetables and fruit grown at the farm. They then walked through the fields in the sunshine to the tractor and trailer and went for a fantastic tractor ride down through the lanes avoiding being prickled by brambles along the way!
Arriving at the poly-tunnels where the farmer grows lots of different fruit and vegetables, the children were able to go into a poly-tunnel where tomatoes were growing and even taste a few fresh ones! Delicious! They also saw some very unusual fruits being grown including cucu-melons. A cross between a cucumber and a melon! After that the children went to the huge poly-tunnels where they grow lots of salad veg.
Then it was time to get back onto the tractor and ride up the hill to have lunch. Everyone enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch together before it was time to head home. What a fun day for Year 2!
