Year 10 Spanish students celebrated "El día de San Jorge" (St George´s Day) by learning about the history of the knight Jorge who saved the Princess of Montblanc, a little town in Catalonia, from being sacrificed and devoured by the monstrous dragon. As well as enjoying making rose bookmarks and roses, Year 10 took part in a reproduction of the story as a play with assistant, Dánae. The dragon was the most acclaimed/popular character!
Year 10s also enjoyed a reproduction of one of the most popular festivities in Spain, "La Feria", held in the Andalusian capital of Seville. Fairgrounds are totally covered in rows of "casetas" (decorated marquee tents temporarily built on the fairground). Most people wear their "flamenco" dresses and everything is decorated with colourful lanterns. To get into the spirit of the festival, the Spanish classroom was decorated accordingly and pupils became specialists in making their own "abanicos" (fans) for the Feria. They also learnt how to dance "sevillanas" with Dánae.
