Olympic and World Champion swimmer, Ruta Meilutyte, 17, has added six GCSEs to her portfolio of achievements.
The Plymouth College pupil, who is part of the school's elite athlete programme, was going to wait until she had finished competing at the European Swimming Championships to find out her results but the temptation was too great! The Lithuanian swimmer was delighted to see that she has secured an impressive 2A, 1B and 3C grades.
"I am really pleased to have passed all of my GCSEs in a year where I've also trained very hard and had great results in the pool. I'd like to thank the teachers at Plymouth College very much for all their support of me. It's been another great year at Plymouth College for me."
It has been a particularly hectic month for the world record holder winning five gold medals and a silver at the British Gas National Youth Championships in Sheffield, taking a further two golds at the Youth Olympics in China before travelling straight to Berlin to compete for a European title this weekend.
"Ruta's results are impressive not only because of her hectic training and competition schedule, but also because English is her second language", said Plymouth College's Deputy Head and Director of Sport, Sarah Dunn. "She applies the same determination and focus that she has for her swimming to her studies and this has really paid off for her both in the pool and in the classroom."
