Year 7 students travelled back 900 years to study how to live in, defend and attack twelfth century castles.
Starting in Launceston, Year 7s explored stone remnants to work out how the bailey was designed and laid out. They then climbed the 75 steps to the stone tower on the motte to admire the views and inspect the walls to find fireplaces, toilets and the well.
At Restormel Castle, students were set the challenge of creating an attack plan using limited equipment and forces to recover the castle from Cornish rebels. Many groups then filmed their plans as TV style news reports which will be edited back in school and shown in assembly.
The weather held out better than the Cornish rebels and all returned to school after a great day in the past.
