Plymouth College performance athlete Catherine Bishop, 16, has been selected for the Great Britain U17 Fencing Team for the European Fencing Championships. The event is being held in Novi Sad, Serbia, at the end of February.
Ranked 4th in her age group in the UK for the epeé, Catherine is part of the English cadet squad and fences in competitions across Europe; in the last 12 months she has competed in France, Germany, Denmark, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia. Catherine is also a talented multi-eventer and is the reigning U17 British Tetrathlon Champion, which saw her add swimming, running and shooting to the fencing discipline.
“I’m really excited to be selected for the Europeans,” said Catherine. “I have been fencing since I was about 8-years-old and this will be my biggest competition to date. It will be great experience and I hope to learn a lot. To finish in the top 16 and qualify for the World Championships would be brilliant.”
